Camouflage weddings are the newest trend on the Louisiana wedding scene, sending a soar in profits throughout the last five years to camo vendors.
“There is a huge move towards the redneck wine glasses, toward the rustic, toward the camo, and everyone down here has a gun.” Karen Giroir said. “We don’t have school shoot outs, but we have camo weddings.”
Some vendors like Formals Plus owner Krissy Richard attributes the boost in camouflage weddings to the recent increase of Louisiana reality TV shows.
“‘My Big Redneck Vacation’ shows a lot of the camo,” Richard said. “So, it’s really hot right now.”
Buyers flock to camo brands like Mossy Oak with bigger reasons than impressing guests. Bride-to-be Kimberly Prothrow said one of her reasons is because her fiance’ likes camouflage.
“We have camo and hot pink in our wedding,” Prothrow said. “I like it because I hunt.”
